2017 AGM and Members' Day

We would love you to join us for our 2017 Annual General Meeting and Members' Day. This event is the perfect opportunity to get under the skin of your charity, meet the team behind it and hear about our latest achievements and challenges straight from those involved.

The day starts with the formalities of the Annual General Meeting, which should last around an hour, before you are then able to enjoy a selection of talks and activities.

This year the event will be held at the beautiful Doddington Hall and Gardens in Lincolnshire.

9.30am - Refreshments and registriation

10.30am - Annual General Meeting

  1. Introduction and welcome by Martin Stott, Chair of Council
  2. Apologies for absence
  3. Minutes (to approve the minutes of the 29th Annual General Meeting held on Thursday 12th May 2016, available online)
  4. Presentation of the 2016 Annual Report on Garden Organic's activities (by James Campbell, Chief Executive)
  5. Presentation of the consolidated financial statements 2016 (By Steve Howell, Treasurer. To receive the reports of the Council and its auditors for the year ended 31st December 2016. Available online from 19th April 2017)
  6. Adoption of the Annual Report and consolidated financial statements 2016
  7. Appointment of auditors 2017 (To authorise the members of the Council to appoint auditors and to fix their remuneration)
  8. Election of Council Members (To confirm elections to the vacancies of the Garden Organic Council. To confirm the election of the Vice-Chair(s) of Trustees)

11.30am - The business of the AGM being concluded, there will be time for questions from the floor.

11.50am - President's Address, Prof. Tim Lang, Garden Organic President and Professor of Food Policy

12.30pm - Keynote speech: Inspiring the next generation of organic growers. Chris Collins, Head of Organic Horticulture, explores the successes of the Food Growing Schools: London project

1.15pm - Lunch and opportunity to explore the gardens

2.30pm - Afternoon session 1, choice of the following activities:

  • 1a. Changing lives at grassroots level; hear how Garden Organic's Sustainable Communities team deliver life-changing projects across the country
  • 1b. Increasing varieties in the Heritage Seed Library; find out how the Heritage Seed Library decides whether variety is suitable to include in the collection. Preview some recent new additions and try your hand at assessing some pre-accession seed.
  • 1c. Tour of the organic walled kitchen garden; discover Doddington Ha'lls inspirational kitche garden with a tour led by the Head Gardener.

3.15pm - Refreshments and activity change around

3.30pm - Afternoon session 2, choice of the following activities (repeat of the above)

  • 2a. Changing lives at grassroots level; hear how Garden Organic's Sustainable Communities team deliver life-changing projects across the country
  • 2b. Increasing varieties in the Heritage Seed Library; find out how the Heritage Seed Library decides whether variety is suitable to include in the collection. Preview some recent new additions and try your hand at assessing some pre-accession seed.
  • 2c. Tour of the organic walled kitchen garden; discover Doddington Halls inspirational kitchen garden with a tour led by the Head Gardener.

4.15pm - Organic grower's question panel; ask your organic gardening questions to our panel of experts.
