9:30am to 1:00pm

This course will teach you about pruning a variety of small trees and shrubs, whether that be for shape or production. Pruning can sometimes seem overly complicated, so a big aim of the session will be to discuss the main principles and boost your confidence levels.

You will learn how, when and why to cut a variety of shrubs and small trees. As well as that, this course will cover safety in the garden and working with tools covering the different types of tools as well as how to clean, sharpen and maintain them.

Finally there will be an overview of how to dispose of prunings in the most environmentally sound way.

This course is led by Judith Conroy. A long time organic gardener, including 5 wonderful years at Ryton Organic Gardens, Judith is passionate about cultivating in harmony with nature. She is enthusiastic about any crafts and skills that help gardeners be more self-sufficient. In addition to her work on gardening projects, Judith has recently been monitoring bumblebees for Coventry University and is a regular contributor to The Organic Way and Grow Your Own magazine.

This course is aimed at beginner to intermediate level. Participants are able to take home any cuttings from the day's pruning if time permits.
