Glasshouse Red Spider Mite
The glasshouse red spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) is also known as the two-spotted spider mite. It is not a spider, however, and is only red for a short time in its life cycle. It attacks a wide range of plants in greenhouses, house-plants and some outdoor crops, especially in hot, dry seasons. This tiny mite is sometimes found on fruit trees such as apricot and peach; less often on apples, pears and plums. A related species, the fruit tree red spider mite (Panonychus ulmi) is a major pest of apples, plums and some other fruits.
