Volunteering for the Heritage Seed Library

The HSL Garden

Marion - HSL's wonderful,
long-standing volunteer
All volunteers with the Heritage Seed Library participate in the day-to-day work. This depends on the time of year. During the spring and summer we are busy growing a range of vegetables for seed. In the autumn and winter we are occupied with harvesting the seed, cleaning it and then packing it. The packets of seed are then dispatched to our members.
Of course, there is a lot more going on than this brief outline. We are also increasing our characterisation of varieties, involving written and photographic records.
Record-keeping and observation are additional on-going jobs.
At HSL, we work as a team and volunteers work within the team during their stay. We also encourage them to pursue individual interests where possible and to meet people from other sections at Garden Organic. There may be possibilities of some days with other departments.
Garden Organic does not offer volunteers any pay at all and cannot provide accommodation.
