Ghana Organic Agriculture Network (GOAN)

Ghana Organic
Agriculture Network
In 1995 Garden Organic (formaerly HDRA), with PAN-UK and supported through DFID funding, helped to establish the Ghana Organic Agriculture Network (GOAN). GOAN is now the main grouping of organic NGOs and trade associations in Ghana. It brings together interested farmer groups, individuals, NGOs and institutions to enable them to share ideas and experiences. It has about 150 member groups and organisations, representing approximately one thousand individual members.
GOAN comprises an organic agriculture resource centre in Kumasi and several regional sub-centres which provide information and advice, education, demonstration and training. Local centres have set up demonstration farms and gardens throughout Ghana to enable wider provision of information and training and to ensure maximum adoption of organic and sustainable farming practices. GOAN has facilitated and carried out many educational and training workshops throughout the country, at regional, district and village levels for farmers, NGOs, school children and teachers, and has also been successful in forging links with research institutions.
