Trade
Demand for organic produce is growing, with 70% of the UK's organic food being imported. Many types of produce come from developing countries. A short Garden Organic study showed that poor farmers benefit and could benefit further from being involved in this trade. Developing organic agriculture for export also helps to raise awareness and develop organic agriculture for domestic markets. However there are many constraints to the involvement of resource-poor farmers including certification and other trade regulations.

A desk study with the assistance of overseas collaborators via email to assess the constraints that resource-poor farmers face when exporting organic produce to the EU market.

Ethical trading 1998 (DFID)
The political and institutional links between organic agriculture and ethical trading were studied. The report covers the UK perspective but has implications for developing countries.
