Gathering Global Knowledge

Prosopis pods
Garden Organic's earlier projects focused on baseline research on the performance and propagation of species, collating global knowledge, and overcoming the taxonomic problems in identifying Prosopis species by producing a series of publications including the ground-breaking monograph and field guide. More recent projects have looked at ways in which Prosopis can be managed and utilised to benefit local communities.
- 2005-2006 Project to promote the management and use of Prosopis through training and product development, focusing on two villages in Baringo District, Kenya in partnership with the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI). Funded by Kennington Overseas Aid, a village trust in Oxfordshire. More details on this project in the Baringo District of Kenya here
- 1998-2004 Gathering global knowledge on the most important and widespread tropical Prosopis species. Funded by the Forestry Research Programme, DFID. This was a major knowledge dissemination programme which included various projects:
- 2002–2004 Policy briefs published. These were produced in response to identifying constraints in policy towards using this tree as a resource. Three of general interest were produced and six others aimed specifically at some of the countries where Prosopis has been introduced: Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
- 2004 Field identification guide published, aimed at overcoming taxonomic problems through the identification of different species.

- 2001 Comprehensive monograph and reference database were produced.
