Soil type/aspect: typically fertile heavy Hertfordshire clay soil. On brow of hill, some protected by trees
Basic rotation: grass/clover ley, peas, wheat, oats/barley
Enterprises: pigs, 4 sows and boar. Soft fruit orchard planted (1 ha (3 ac)), 48 chickens and a few geese. Arable crops grown for pig feed. Has 2 cows about to be sold. Some vegetable land for own use
Prior land use: previously been farmed conventionally up to mid 80
Weeding equipment: has grass harrow and lazy dog tools
Business: one farm manager, occasional help from partner. Use of contractors (no tractor). Some WWOOFers
Marketing: Sells pork, eggs and cider in farm shop. At moment buys in apples to press
