Alan - this could be Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum). It is more a weed of gardens than an arable weed. It is easily pulled up to prevent seeding.

It is an ivy like vine which has a red stem and vine. the leaves are very small (half inch and smaller) and it is growing very thick as a ground covering killing grass and spreading fast. it puts shallow roots down near the flowers everywhere it touches and spreads more vines.
does anyone know what this is or how to get rid of it?
