Vegetable variety trials

Background

the vegetable variety trials are undertaken in association with NIAB
the trials aim to evaluate varietal performance (quality, yield and disease resistance) under organic growing conditions
the trials are carried out on multiple sites on UKROFS approved organic farms
varieties are evaluated over a number of seasons (2 or 3)
 
Celery cropping

Past Trials (1991-2001)

A range of varieties have been evaluated over the past 10 years or so including:
Brassicas (broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower), Carrots, Leeks, Lettuce, Onions, Oriental Vegetables, Parsnips, Potatoes, Swedes
 

Current Work (2001 onwards)

We are currently evaluating varieties of the following crops:
Carrots, Celery, Potatoes, Leeks, Lettuce
 

Outputs

An important component of the work is disseminating results to the growers.
