	What can I compost?

Good stuff (the best stuff)

• Waste from the vegetable garden

• Bedding from vegetarian pets

• Kitchen waste, fruit and vegetables thrown out from greengrocers

• Soft hedge prunings like privet or beech

• Harder woody prunings if shredded small

• Weeds

• Old plants and flowers

• Strawy farmyard and horse manure

Hot stuff (speeds up your heap)

• Grass mowings (But don't add in layers more than 10cm deep)

• Nettle tops

• Chicken and pigeon manure

Don't use

•
Meat and fish

•   Coal ash

•   Lots of leaves

•   Nappies

•   Lots of paper

•   Dog and cat faeces

•   Metal and glass

•   Persistent weeds like bindweed

•   Diseased plants and weed seeds
