In general 2011

This is the time of year to make full use of all the resources an autumn garden can supply for your compost and leafmould heaps.
Making compost and leafmould stores and recycles plant foods. The resulting products are just what your soil needs to keep it in good fettle, so it can grow healthy organic plants.

Now is the time to use leafmould that you have already made. Apply it as a mulch to protect the soil over the winter.

The Garden Organic book of compost

Garden Organic has been helping people make compost for over 50 years. We have just published The Garden Organic book of compost, which includes all the up-to-date thinking, and lots of practical advice for all composters, new and old.

We also have a booklet and factsheets to help you along the composting road.

Keep your worms warm

A worm compost bin will slow down as the temperature falls. Now is the time to insulate your worm bin against the winter chill, or to move it into a frost free place.
