Next Steps to Seed Saving

Ryton, Organic Gardens
Wednesday, 11 November 2020 -
1:00pm to 4:00pm

Course Leader: Catrina Fenton

This half day course is ideal if you already have some experience of saving seed from vegetables and is the perfect follow on from our introductory course, ‘Introduction to Seed Saving’.

We cover methods of isolation & pollination for open-pollinated varieties. We also identify (rogue out) and select biennial crops for overwintering and clean seeds of some appropriate seasonal crops.

In addition we guide you through post-harvest ripening and drying and the principles of seed storage and shelf life for various vegetable types. Practical activities will include cleaning seeds of appropriate crops.

We will complete the course with a behind the scenes tour of the Heritage Seed Library.
