Heritage Seed Library Guided Tour 19th May at 11.45am
Join us for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of our unique Heritage Seed Library to discover how we grow and save seed for our collection of rare heirloom seeds.
Our Heritage Seed Library tour will take you to our working spaces to reveal the what, how, and why we grow heritage varieties for seed. We will take you on a tour around our polytunnels and outdoor beds to see the methods we use to isolate and pollinate crops to ensure varieties are conserved 'true to type' for future generations. We will show you what is easy from a seed-saving point of view and why some crops are more challenging.
You will learn about the techniques you can try yourself, such as hand-pollinating and seed cleaning, to get started on your own seed-saving adventure. We will introduce you to a few of the unique and unusual varieties in the collection as well as provide a sneak preview of our growing trials of recently rediscovered heritage varieties.
Light refreshments will be available. The tour will last approximately 45 minutes. Following the tour, there will be time to explore HSL and the session will come to a close after the Q&A with our Heritage Seed Library Team.
We recommend wearing clothing and footwear suitable for the outdoors. Please be aware that we will be taking you around our working spaces, where access is uneven underfoot and includes steps and slopes.
