It’s been a day of fruit tree maintenance for me. I have a very small orchard – two pear trees, two apples, a couple of cherries and a plum. With a line of black currant bushes marching down the middle. Whilst checking for dead and diseased branches I spotted an earwig, hiding behind the glorious white-as-snow pear blossom. And I remembered Dave Goulson’s words on these tiny, much maligned creatures.
