Shortlisting is well under way for the Heritage Seed Library 2020 seed list.

Shortlisting is well under way as the Heritage Seed Library team decides which varieties will be included in the 2020 seed list.

The team has been busy undertaking numerous germination tests to ensure that seed quality for our members is high. Photos and content are being selected and checked before the mammoth task of hand packing seeds begins.

Here’s a sneak preview of a new variety to look out for: Black Jack Kale, thought to have originated in Tiverton, Devon, our donor acquired the seed in about 1957. The plants are described as immensely strong and resilient, with soft, green leaves and mauve veins and stalks. The shoots are delicious raw or cooked and it freezes well.
