Position overview
Responsible for training and managing a core group of the most engaged and enthused HSBC staff to take on the role of Growing Champions, who will volunteer their time to maintain the two roof terrace gardens. The Growing Champions will also motivate and engage fellow employees to participate in growing activities within the workplace.

Employees will be invited to join the weekly Garden Organic lead expert training sessions, developed and delivered by Garden Organic trainers with specialist knowledge and experience.

HSBC UK Headquarters is a new development purpose built to the highest environmental standards in Centenary Square, Birmingham. The new HQ features two roof terrace gardens designed by Garden Organic for HSBC staff to have a productive urban growing space within their workplace.
 
Job responsibilities
  • Manage the Garden Organic “Growing Champions”' project HSBC Birmingham in line with the agreed objectives and milestones. This is structured around regular training, on-site co-delivery, and producing bespoke resources.
  • Provide technical organic horticultural support to employees during the creation of and the ongoing maintenance the roof terrace gardens
  • Manage the formation of an active employee gardening group.
  • Train and support HSBC staff enrolled on in the Growing Champions gardening club
  • Deliver weekly sessions held in the terrace gardens for Growing Champions to attend to support Growing Champions for the first year until they gain the required confidence to take full control in year two to ensure the sustainability of the garden project going forward.
  • Provide support and training to the Growing Champions to enthuse and involve all fellow employees to engage in a range of different organic horticultural and food growing activities.
  • Manage the project delivery and budget for all of the growing spaces used by the project
  • Monitor, evaluate, and promote the achievements of the growing space and staff attainment to programme stakeholders
  • Integrate the growing spaces operated by the project with the other interventions offered by HSBC as appropriate.
  • Promote the project within HSBC to all departments, visitors, and Garden Organic networks
  • Apply and contribute to the learning developed in the Garden Organic’s National Master Gardener Programme team, ie shared best-practice, industry recognition, and innovation by sister Programmes.
  • Fully comply with all policies and procedures within the HSBC. Maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone. Includes adhering to confidentiality agreements.
  • Attend contract meetings with HSBC, stakeholders and external partners as required
  • Undertake other Garden Organic tasks and responsibilities as required.

*This role is 10.5 hours a week with some flexible working. Compliance with HSBC policies and procedures.
