HSBC UK HQ is a new development purpose built to the highest environmental standards, in Centenary Square, Birmingham.  The new headquarters feature two roof terrace gardens for HSBC employees to have access to productive garden space within their workplace.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for enrolling, training and coordinating a core group of engaged and enthused HSBC employees to take on the role of Growing Champions, who will volunteer their time to maintain the two organic roof terrace gardens.
 
The HSBC Growing Champions will also motivate and engage fellow employees to participate in growing activities in the workplace. The Project Coordinator will also prepare and deliver weekly horticultural training sessions, using the roof terrace spaces, covering aspects/principles of organic gardening.
 
Specific Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the Garden Organic “HSBC Growing Champions”' project in line with the agreed objectives and milestones. This is structured around engaging volunteers, providing regular training (some co-delivered), and producing bespoke resources.
  • Provide organic horticultural support to employees during the creation of and the ongoing maintenance of the roof terrace gardens.
  • Facilitate the formation of an active ‘Growing Champions’ Gardening Group amongst HSBC employees.
  • Deliver weekly horticultural training sessions within the organic terrace gardens for the Growing Champions, empowering them with the skills to continue caring for and benefitting from the gardens beyond the end date of this funded project.
  • Provide ongoing proactive and reactive support to the Growing Champions, keeping them enthused and encouraged to engage the wider HSBC workforce in a range of different organic horticultural and food growing activities.
  • Manage the project delivery and associated budgets for the gardens.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and promote the achievements of the project including employee attainment to programme stakeholders.
  • Integrate the growing spaces operated by the project with other interventions offered by HSBC as appropriate.
  • Promote the project both internally through HSBC and Garden Organic networks and externally to a wider audience.
  • Apply and contribute to the learning developed in the Garden Organic’s National Master Gardener Programme team, i.e. shared best-practice, industry recognition and innovation by sister programmes.
  • Fully comply with all policies and procedures within the HSBC building. Maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone including adhering to confidentiality agreements.
  • Attend contract meetings with HSBC, stakeholders and external partners as required
  • Undertake other Garden Organic tasks and responsibilities as required.
     
It is the nature of work of Garden Organic that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All employees are, therefore, expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises where tasks not specifically covered in the Job Description have to be undertaken.
