What to see in our organic garden in May

May is a buzz of activity in our organic demonstration garden. We'll be sowing the first peas, beans and carrots in our vegetable garden - and they'll be delicious rows of heritage lettuces and radish to admire. Our two ponds will also be coming to life: look out for newts, which will be making an appearance in the pond to mate and lay eggs, and frog and toad spawn. Bright sparks among the flower and shrub border will be our alliums and beautifully scented auriculas and ceanothus. Our 30-strong National Collection of comfrey will be in flower at this time.

I found so many great ideas to take back to my own garden

Organic inspiration on our garden tours

These 45-minute tours enable you to see all of the organic principles in action - with inspiration and ideas to get you gardening in a more sustainable and eco-friendly way.

Guided by an expert team, our organic demonstration garden tours allow you to go behind-the-scenes of our working garden and learn more about composting, gardening without peat and pesticides, and ways to encourage more wildlife.

You'll be able to explore our no-dig trial area, ornamental garden, large vegetable patch featuring our Heritage Seed Library vegetables, National Comfrey Collection and several wildlife ponds. There are also different sections dedicated to maximising container gardening, vertical spaces and gardening for climate change.

There will be an opportunity for you to ask the experts your organic gardening questions, and further time for you to explore and enjoy the garden on your own. Light refreshments will be available, and we recommend wearing clothing and footwear suitable for the outdoors.
