The Heritage Seed Library (HSL) maintains the national collection of heritage vegetables and aims to conserve vegetable varieties that are not widely available, sharing seed with our members to grow and enjoy.

Our research aims to advance the knowledge of practical organic growing techniques and to study the socio-economic, health, and environmental effects of gardening and local food production.

We work with a number of sectors to help create growing spaces and gardens, support networks of volunteer champions, deliver bespoke training and run projects that bring people together to improve their health and local environment.
Growing advice
We produce advice on how to grow and manage your garden organically, suitable for beginners to seasoned gardeners, and from window boxes to community allotments and school gardens.
