Garden Organic calls for support to say 'No' to glyphosate

Following the recent deferral of the EU vote to relicense glyphosate, Garden Organic is urging members and supporters to get behind the campaign for a ‘No’ vote when the EU committee next meets.

The charity is writing to Vytenis Andriukaitis, the EU’s Health and Food Safety Commissioner, asking him to consider the vast amount of independent scientific evidence compiled in the recent report by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), commissioned by the World Health Organisation. This report indicates that glyphosate alone, as well as in chemical formulations, causes genotoxicity in both humans and animals.

“Garden Organic has grave concerns over the relicensing of glyphosate,” says James Campbell, Chief Executive. “The World Health Organisation has labelled the herbicide as ‘probably carcinogenic’ – which should be evidence enough that there is no place for it in our gardens, allotments and shared spaces. We are asking our members to act now in support of our call for a ‘No’ vote.”

Garden Organic will be collecting signatures until 10am on Monday 4th April.
