Pear leaf blister mite

Question ...

The new leaves on my pear tree have strange orange pustules on them - what can I do.

Answer ...

This is pear leaf blister mite and although it looks unsightly, it is not serious. It is caused by a tiny mite feeding on the emerging leaves. A very bad infestation may deplete the yield, but generally, it is harmless. Remove the affected leaves as they appear and dispose of them by composting or send them to your local green waste recycling scheme.
