Dwarf French Bean
Bob's Best
Our donor was originally given these seeds by an allotment neighbour and has grown them himself since the 1980s.
An intermediate variety producing 2-3 leaders that will climb to around 70cm; if planted fairly closely (about 6cm apart), as he does, they shouldn't need any staking: the plants will support each other.
Pick them very young if eating the pods, as they do get stringy, or pod the beans and enjoy them that way.
