Climbing French Bean
Old Homestead
Originally introduced in 1864; in 1909 seedsman HW Buckbee described this vigorous, cream seeded variety in just three words, “has no equal”. The clusters of long, stringless pods (20-25cm) are produced later than some other varieties but over an extended season, and packed full of meaty-flavoured beans. It has also been found to be rust resistant. Cooks well when young, also good for freezing. This variety is synonymous with Kentucky Wonder, a variety currently included in the European Common Catalogue, so it is likely that this will be its last appearance in our catalogue. Once it's gone, it's gone!
