The donor of this variety told us it has been in her late husband’s family since the 1930s. When autumn-sown at Ryton, this cos lettuce stood well with protection, surviving frost and snowfall, producing reddish-brown tints on the outside leaves. We found it slow to bolt even inside a polytunnel.
