David Chappell

Named after our donor, this variety was bred from 'Prizewinner' and 'Achievement' by Dr W Florida in Pwllmeyrick, near Chepstow in 1936. Some were passed to our donor's brother, and eventually to David in 1946 and he has grown them ever since. It produces several flowers and pods per leaf node, and is an exceptionally heavy cropper with up to nine beans in each long pod. Until it was donated to HSL 'David Chappell's' was only grown by the Chappell family. Requires strong supports.
