Doreen joined Garden Organic’s Membership team as a volunteer at our Head Office, at Ryton Organic Gardens, after being made redundant.
"I started volunteering at Garden Organic 11 months ago, after being made redundant from my previous job." Commented Doreen.
I'm so pleased I made the decision to join the charity as a volunteer. Working in the Membership team for six months, gave me the chance to use my skills, learn something new, and help the team out.
After Doreen’s initial stint of volunteering with Membership, she made the decision to continue volunteering with the charity by joining the Volunteer team, assisting with essential administration tasks.
Doreen’s time at Ryton Organic Gardens has also provided her with inspiration for her spare time. “Volunteering at Garden Organic has also given me chance to think about what I want to do in my in my garden. I’ve been inspired me to spend more time planning my garden and I’m now growing more organic vegetables.”
If anyone has any spare hours in their week I’d definitely recommend volunteering. You can do something you enjoy, meet new people and it gives you confidence to try something different whilst learning new skills."
