Cambridgeshire Master Composters

In 2018 Garden Organic delivered a 6 month pilot Master Composter project commissioned by Amey, Anglian Water, and support from Cambridgeshire County Council.  The project was delivered by a Garden Organic Volunteer Coordinator and focussed upon the Cherry Hinton Road area of Cambridge City and the town of March (north of the city).Over the course of the 6 months we trained and supported 10 Master Composters who contributed 180 hours of their time and recorded 1346 composting conversations.

Master Composters were present at a large number of organised local events as well as providing talks to schools, groups and holding informal conversations over the garden fence.  Despite proving successful and well received unfortunately the funding was not available to continue the project beyond 6 months.

As a separate commission Garden Organic have worked in partnership with Cambridge City Council to deliver a series of 6 free to attend ‘Compost Workshop for Beginners’ sessions at locations around the city.  These took place in Autumn 2018 and Spring 2019.  Residents left the workshops inspired to begin composting and reassured to continue, making use of the various hints and tips provided.
