Delve into the world of seed saving with our Heritage Seed Library Seed Saving workshop. Our workshop will start with an introduction on how to start seed saving including instruction on seed cleaning, drying, and storage methods for different vegetable types based on the methods we use for varieties such as pea, French bean, tomato, lettuce, and pepper. There will also be practical hands-on seed cleaning activities with our expert team as well as a behind-the-scenes look at our growing and seed management spaces with plenty of time for discussion and questions.

Topics covered:

  • Why save Seed?
  • Basic botany for seed saving
  • Growing plants for seed
  • Drying & storing your seed harvest

Skill level: Beginner

You will need to bring: Some areas of the Heritage Seed Library growing spaces are uneven and outdoors so sensible seasonal clothing and footwear are recommended.

About your course Leaders: HSL Seed Officer Lucy Shepherd & Lead Horticulturalist Marcin Salnikow
Lucy and Marcin are both part of the fantastic Heritage Seed Library team, working hard to grow and preserve seed varieties that are no longer available so that our members can enjoy growing them at home.

Our workshop will have an informal, relaxed learning environment with plenty of opportunities for interaction. We will also provide a full set of notes and handouts in advance.

We look forward to welcoming you.
