Laurel Villa open garden
Allison Priestman and Martin Benson are kindly opening their garden in Swellshill, near Stroud on Saturday 27th June from 2 pm to 6 pm. The garden will be open in partnership with Knoll House, Burleigh which is 10 minutes’ walk away. Find out more on our facebook page.
The garden at Laurel Villa is steep, terraced and a third of an acre. Developed over the past decade by Martin and Allison this organically nurtured garden features: extensive vegetable growing, soft fruit area, a small orchard, walnut and filbert trees, a courtyard garden, and extensive flower areas, including a new rose garden and a steep bank bed, with grasses and herbaceous perennials.
Visit and delight in artichokes, bergamot, courgettes, dahlias, echinacea, french beans, geraniums and lots more…
A good local landmark is Winstones Ice Cream parlour, Bownham Common. For Swellshill travel approx. 400 metres along the narrow 20 mph road past Winstones and bear left. Look out for signs
indicating where to park. There is no parking available in the narrow steep lane of Swellshill, so please park on Bownham Common, admire the wild late orchids and walk 5 minutes down into the hamlet. The garden entrance will be signposted.
Local buses travel along the A419, ten minutes’ walk away but please check times.
Please note that particular care needs to be taken when visiting this garden as there is an unguarded 8ft high Ha-Ha along the full length of the garden. We apologise but the garden is not suitable for wheel chair access due to steps, slopes and uneven ground.
