(C. maxima) This South American bush-type squash was first listed by James J H Gregory in 1885 and has been intermittently available since that time. In one season a single plant can produce 15kg of tennis-ball sized fruits for summer or winter use.

Why we save Zapallito de Tronco Squash 🔗

The variety was almost lost once more until seedsman George B Roberts managed to track down more seed and reintroduce it commercially in 1967. However, by the 1990s this variety was at risk of disappearing once more until taken into safekeeping at the Heritage Seed Library.
