Positioned strategically next to the dementia garden, the facility will complement the therapeutic environment whilst offering practical sustainability education to residents of all ages and abilities.
This development aligns seamlessly with the park's phased approach. Following the successful completion of Phase One's dementia garden, the composting site will support Phase Two's community orchard by providing nutrient-rich compost for fruit tree establishment and maintenance. Looking ahead to Phase Three, the facility will become integral to the community allotment site, partnering with Alnwick Gardens' Roots and Shoots programme to deliver comprehensive training in sustainable growing practices.
The composting training site will serve multiple community functions: reducing household waste sent to landfill, producing valuable soil amendments for the orchard and future allotments, and creating educational opportunities for schools, community groups, and individuals interested in environmental stewardship. This practical resource demonstrates Cramlington Town Council's commitment to community-led development and environmental responsibility.
By establishing this facility, the Council continues to maximise the benefits of the asset transfer from Northumberland County Council, ensuring the former playing field becomes a genuinely sustainable community asset serving diverse resident needs across generations.
